Lady Gaga Revealed That No One Noticed The Hidden Obscenities In One Of Her Hit Songs

Lady Gaga enjoyed a huge hit with “Poker Face.” The song is a heady mix of sexuality and gambling, allowing Gaga to pay tribute to her boyfriends from the world of rock ’n’ roll. However, there’s a little-known obscenity hidden in the chorus of the song, and even most radio stations aren’t aware of it.

Gaga, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, became a household name after the release of her first album The Fame, as it shot up the charts around the world. Gaga’s outlandish looks and unconventional music found a willing audience and justified her decision to drop out of art school to make a career in performing. Massive hits “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” helped make Gaga ubiquitous on 2008’s radios and TVs.

Whereas “Just Dance” had rocked a bouncy, fresh beat, “Poker Face” was darker and owed more to New York’s downtown dance scene. Pounding electronics created an insistent beat, with a catchy hook that carried a hint of Boney M’s “Ma Baker,” while Gaga spun a tale of dark innuendo, all about sex. The lyrics were packed with what Billboard magazine’s Kerri Mason described as “smut and sass.”

Critics fell over themselves to rave about the song, with one describing it as “strut-tastic.” It was a massive hit, topping the U.S. Hot 100 in April 2009, making Gaga the first artist to hit the top with her first two singles in nearly a decade. Charts everywhere surrendered to its charms, with the single smashing records for paid digital downloads worldwide. Both the song and the album it came from won Grammys later that year.

It’s hardly shocking that a song packed with smut should contain a hidden obscenity, but what is a surprise is that British radio station Kiss FM is the only one that has actually found it – and bleeped it out. As the chorus leads into the verse, Gaga intones “poker face” – already a risqué double entendre – but on the second time around, Gaga confirmed – it sings “f**k her face.”
