When rapper Drake fixed a date with actress Tiffany Haddish in 2018, it may have looked like one of the entertainment world’s great romances was about to blossom. Unfortunately the Canadian superstar stood Haddish up. But she wasn’t going to take it lying down, and she hit back with an epic response which showed a healthy sense of her own self-worth.
Drake is one of the hottest artists in the world, topping the charts almost every time he releases a record. And his face is instantly recognizable, so often has it appeared on awards shows as he collects yet another Grammy or American Music Award. So when he asked Haddish for a date, she was likely intrigued. Haddish, for her part, came to prominence with her role in 2017 hit movie Girls Trip.
The actress told her co-star from Girls Trip Jada Pinkett-Smith all about it on the latter’s Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch in June 2018. She said, “I would like to date. I really don’t have a lot of time for it, but when somebody asks me out on a date that I’m interested in and like hanging out with, I will clear the schedule. I will make some time.”
So Haddish did just that, spending the day picking out a dress for the evening and getting in some waxing, while shooting the breeze with the rapper about their respective work schedules. But come time for dinner, Drake flaked. When she asked him what time he was setting off and where they were supposed to be going, he responded that a “family emergency” had sent him to Canada.
The Girls Trip star wasn’t exactly pleased about being stood up, as she explained to Pinkett-Smith. She said, “I could have made $100,000 today, but I was trying to see what that D do. But all right!” And she wasn’t kidding, given the demand for her services. Not too long afterwards, she served as host for the MTV Movie and TV Awards, and at the same time she could be seen in hit TV sitcom The O.G.
