Actor and director Clint Eastwood has built a Hollywood career on his uber masculine image. In the 1960s he starred in a slew of spaghetti Westerns, which made him a star. Later, Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, both of which Clint directed, would go on to win Academy Awards for his work at the helm.
In the midst of all this, Clint had a pretty busy personal life, too. Even while in committed relationships or marriages, the actor has stepped out and had affairs on a number of occasions. As such, he has eight children – and one of Clint’s older kids, Alison, has had plenty to say about her father’s unique parenting style.
An actor and director herself, Alison has had chances to share what she thinks about her father with the press. And Clint’s daughter didn’t hold back in an interview with Closer – she told the public what it was really like to grow up with a busy Hollywood father.
Clint has earned a reputation as a top-notch actor and director, but he has also turned heads for his many relationships over the years. Most recently, he married news anchor Dina Ruiz. The pair’s union remained intact from 1996 to 2013 and they shared one child together – a daughter named Morgan, the youngest of Eastwood’s eight children.
Before that, Clint had a long-term relationship in the 1990s with actress Frances Fisher. And together, they also shared one daughter named Francesca, born in 1993. Like her father, Francesca has pursued an on-screen career, although much of her work has appeared on television rather than the silver screen.
In fact, in 2012 Francesca joined her dad’s then-wife Dina Ruiz and her half-sister Morgan on the reality TV show Mrs. Eastwood & Company. The series lasted only seven episodes, but Francesca made waves for taking part in a photoshoot on the show, wherein she destroyed a $100,000 purse.
Since then, Francesca has served as Miss Golden Globe, handing out trophies at the award ceremony in 2013. Four years later, she and her mom appeared on an episode of the TV show Fargo, playing the younger and older version of the same character. And as it turns out, she’s not the only Eastwood child to pursue such a career.
Francesca has older siblings in the spotlight, too. In the 1970s her dad Clint lived with actress Sondra Locke, who dedicated herself to their relationship. However, Clint stepped out on her and maintained a long-standing affair with flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves. Together, they shared two children – Scott and Kathryn, born in 1986 and 1988 respectively.
Like her half-sister, Francesca, Kathryn has had the chance to serve as Miss Golden Globe, handing out award statues at the ceremony. She is also a writer and actress, having appeared in Jersey Boys and American Virus – although she hasn’t had a huge break-out role yet.
Meanwhile, Kathryn’s brother Scott has had much more luck – and without any of his famous father’s help. For years, he didn’t use the Eastwood name, so that his casting wouldn’t be seen as nepotism. Nevertheless, Scott said in 2015 that he always auditioned for his father’s films. He landed a small part in 2008’s Gran Torino, and he took on the role of Joel Stransky in Invictus.
In the same year, Scott earned his stripes as a Hollywood heartthrob, too. Firstly, he played Taylor Swift’s love interest in her video for the song “Wildest Dreams.” Then, he starred in the on-screen adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s The Longest Ride, for which he won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Drama.
Since then, Scott has become a bona fide movie star all on his own. He has landed parts in beloved franchises, such as DC Comics’ Suicide Squad and The Fate of the Furious. In 2019 his latest flick, The Outpost is slated to come out and he will act in the upcoming film, The Manuscript, too.
Meanwhile, Scott and his sister, Kathryn, weren’t Clint’s only children to come from dalliances outside of his committed relationships. As far back as the 1950s, Eastwood had an affair outside of his engagement and eventual marriage to his first wife, Maggie Johnson. And that secret relationship resulted in his first child, a daughter named Laurie.
During his marriage to Maggie, Eastwood continued to step out. One of his affairs, with stuntwoman and actress Roxanne Tunis, spanned 14 years. The pair had a daughter named Kimber, who came into the world in 1984. Not much is known about Kimber nowadays, but she has followed a similar path to her parents.
For one thing, Kimber works as both a make-up artist and film producer, thus proving she has the same creative chops as the Eastwood clan. Like her father, Kimber hasn’t had the smoothest path, relationship-wise. Indeed, according to Closer, she has been married three times.
Four years after Kimber’s birth, Clint and his then-wife Maggie would finally welcome their first child, a son named Kyle. Growing up, the couple filled their family home with music, namely records by jazz greats Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and more. And these tunes would have a great influence on Kyle’s life. Indeed, he started playing the bass guitar while in high school, delving into genres such as Motown, reggae and R&B.
Eventually, though, the young musician found his way back to jazz and formed the Kyle Eastwood Quartet. In 1996 he played a tribute concert to his father at Carnegie Hall, a performance planned in honor of his father Clint’s lifelong love of the genre. Within two years, Kyle had recorded his first jazz record with Sony – and he has since released seven more albums.
On top of that, Kyle’s musical prowess and his familial connection to his Hollywood heavyweight father have allowed him to write music for movies, too. Specifically, he has penned tunes for nine of his dad’s movies, including Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Gran Torino and Invictus.
Kyle has a creative sibling, too, in Clint and Maggie’s second child, a daughter named Alison. She came into the world four years after Kyle and, like many of her siblings, she quickly fell into a career similar to her father’s. In fact, she began acting – and nabbing roles – in her childhood.
At just seven years old, Alison had her first part in the movie Bronco Billy, although her appearance went uncredited. Four years later, though, she landed a much larger role in the thriller Tightrope. She acted in a part very familiar to her real life – the daughter of police detective Wes Block, played by Clint Eastwood.
But the thriller required Alison to flex some serious acting chops. In the movie, Clint’s character pursues a serial killer, who eventually breaks into the family’s home. Once inside, he murders the nanny and some of their adopted pets. Then, he handcuffs Alison’s character Amanda and gags her.
After Tightrope, Alison took a 13-year hiatus from acting in movies. She then reappeared in 1997, playing an art student in Absolute Power and then Mandy Nicholls in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. In fact, the late ‘90s would be a busy time for Alison – she acted in seven movies between 1997 and 1999.
Then, Alison went on to diversify her career, taking modeling jobs in both print and on Parisian runways. She featured in many European magazines, as well as in the U.S. version of Vogue. In 2003 Alison even sat for a nude Playboy photoshoot, too.
In 2007 Alison then took on a different role – director. She sat behind the camera as she led the cast of Rails & Ties, which starred Marcia Gay Harden and Kevin Bacon. A decade later, she would direct another film called Battlecreek, a movie which featured Bill Skarsgård, Paula Malcomson, and Claire van der Boom.
But that’s not all, as far as Alison’s talents and to-dos are concerned. Indeed, she helms her own fashion line, the Eastwood Ranch Apparel too. She also founded her own non-profit organization, the Eastwood Ranch Foundation, where Alison works to improve animal welfare.
Nevertheless, Alison decided to quit the acting portion of her career after starring in the movie Finding Harmony in 2014. Four years later, though, she went out to eat and her phone rang as she trekked to the restaurant. And the man on the phone was Clint Eastwood’s producer, Sam Moore.
As Alison recalled to Variety in 2018, “[Moore said], ‘You know your dad wants you to be in this film.” The producer spoke of Eastwood’s then-upcoming flick, The Mule. Once again, her father wanted her to play his daughter, just as she did in the 1984 movie, Tightrope.
This time, though, Alison would play the daughter to a much older Clint – and a completely different character. In The Mule – the movie in which he wanted her to star – her father would play a near-centurion who gets caught smuggling millions of dollars worth of drugs for a cartel.
At first, Alison said, she resigned herself to the fact that she had retired from acting. She told Variety, “I sort of threw in the towel and decided to focus on a lot of different things.” This led her to wonder why Clint had picked up the phone to call her in the first place. But the fact he had kept her thinking about the job.
Soon, Alison had changed her tune. She recalled, “The more I thought about it, I was like, ‘Well, maybe this is an opportunity to not only play [Clint’s] daughter, but also to spend some free time with him.” Her husband, Stacy Poitras, warned her she would “regret it for the rest of [her] life” if she didn’t act alongside her famous father.
In taking the role, Alison got to see her father’s work ethic first-hand. She described, “He’s a machine. I think he has a robot chip in the back of his head. He’s not human.” And Alison could make such a statement from experience – she had directed two films of her own, so she knew how hard her dad worked.
“I don’t get worried,” Alison continued. “I don’t know how [Clint] does it. I’m not sure. I can only aspire that I could have half the stamina he has. I directed two films and the last one almost killed me. He just seems to make it look easy, which is very inspiring but it’s also like, ‘Why can’t it be as easy for me?’”
Still, none of these sentiments touched on Clint’s abilities as a father to his eight children. It would be Alison who opened up on this subject, too. She spoke to Closer and first said her dad differed greatly in real life from the people who he portrayed on the big screen.
Alison said, “My dad is a much more cool and laid-back guy than a lot of his characters.” On top of that, his daughter says, Clint has no trouble making people laugh, nor does he have reservations in laughing at the sad, scary or sinister. She added, “He has a wonderfully dry, dark sense of humor.”
Of course, Alison’s mother and father didn’t stay married. But she added that their relationship had no bearing on how Clint treated her – neither did his jam-packed Hollywood schedule. She said, “My parents split up when I was pretty young, but he always made time for us, even when he was working.”
As she grew up, though, Alison admitted that she didn’t realize how much she admired her father Clint until later. She added, “As a teenager, you think your parents are dorky. But as my brother and I matured, we realized how much they meant to us. My dad and I are good friends – we laugh a lot. We have a lot to share.”
And Alison’s half-brother, Scott, chimed in to laud his dad, too. But he described Clint’s reactions to his and the rest of his children’s chosen career paths. He told Closer Weekly, “Dad didn’t care if I was a plumber or an actor. He said, ‘Whatever you do, just do it well. Be humble about what you do, be a good guy and tell the truth.”
To that end, Clint made sure his kids earned what they got growing up – no handouts from their famous dad allowed. Scott recalled to People, “I’ve had a job since I can remember and it’s not like he was like, ‘Hey, what kind of car do you want?’ My first car was a ‘91 Ford Crown Victoria that was $1,000. And I had to buy every car after that. I had to do it all.”
Meanwhile, Clint has certainly taken his own advice about hard work to heart. The 11-time Academy Award nominee – and four-time winner – hasn’t made a movie since The Mule alongside Alison in 2018. But he is in the pre-production stages of filming his next flick, The Ballad of Richard Jewell.
In his personal life, Eastwood seems to be thriving, too. He has maintained a long-term relationship with Christina Sandera. And, while he has had plenty of failed marriages in his wake, Eastwood could make the walk down the aisle again. A source told Closer – and his kids could probably vouch – that he’s unpredictable. The source concluded, “You never know with Clint.”
