For fans of the British royal family, 2018 has been quite a remarkable year. Firstly, there was all the pomp and spectacle of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tying the knot back in May. Then there was a second royal wedding just a few months later. But while Princess Eugenie’s ceremony may have lacked the incredible fanfare of the previous event, there were still plenty of memorable moments during the occasion – and some of them even went unseen by the TV cameras.

20. The evening reception

Although TV audiences were treated to some unmatched coverage of the wedding, Eugenie’s guests were afforded a lot more privacy later in the day. That didn’t stop Prince Andrew, father of the bride, from snapping pictures of the venue hosting the evening reception, however. And this shot in particular highlights some of the incredible decorations at the location.

In fact, Andrew shared several images of the venue on his Twitter account – focusing particularly on the floral additions. “The flower arrangements displayed during the wedding reception for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank last Friday at Windsor Castle were created using autumnal foliage from Windsor Great Park and biodegradable oasis, following the couple’s autumnal theme and eco-friendly request,” the social media page revealed.

Young children can be incredibly unpredictable at events such as this – regardless of their upbringing. Prince George certainly proved that, as he appeared at one point to be stifling his laughter while in the church. But whether they’re royalty or not, kids will be kids.

Ahead of the wedding, more than 1,000 randomly selected people were invited to the otherwise closed grounds of Windsor Castle. And as the day approached, those guests were advised to wrap up warm to stave off the predicted windy conditions. The weather certainly caught Kate Middleton out, however, as one gust attempted to show the world her underwear. Luckily, though, the duchess caught on just in time.

But the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t the only one who faced such a predicament; Lady Louise Windsor also struggled against the strong winds. “She had an unfortunate accident,” guest Deborah Willemen told Town & Country magazine in October 2018. “Her skirt blew up on the front steps, as she was trying to take care of all the children.”

While a wedding is typically a truly happy occasion, the day can still prove incredibly taxing for the bride and groom. However, if Eugenie and Brooksbank were in any way stressed or exhausted by the festivities, they certainly didn’t show it. Indeed, as the pair headed to dinner later that evening, they were all smiles.

As Eugenie prepared to enter St. George’s Chapel, she required some assistance with her bridal train. Stretching down the steps behind her, the long tail of her dress needed to be neatly put into order before she walked into the church. Thankfully, though, the princess’ dad was on hand to help.

While the children at the wedding were occasionally a little mischievous, they were nevertheless on their best behavior when it counted. Robbie Williams’ daughter, Theodora, was a case in point, as she posed impeccably in her bridesmaid’s dress for a photo next to the groom later that day.

Although Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been separated for more than 20 years, they still maintain a close relationship. That seemed to be suggested during the wedding too, as the pair sat together in the church and shared a glance with Eugenie. They weren’t the only ones with eyes on the bride, either, since the Queen also kept watch over her granddaughter.

As the wedding guests started to leave the church, the cameras were unsurprisingly focused on the bride and groom. However, one snapper decided to hold back and so captured a tender moment between Harry and Meghan. And even amid all of the activity, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared to only have eyes for each other.

Ever since her birth in May 2015, Princess Charlotte has been no stranger to the spotlight. However, as she left the church behind the bride and groom, Prince William’s daughter seemingly decided that enough was enough. After all, although the pair are one of the most famous couples in the world, all eyes were on the bride and groom at the wedding. One of the most enjoyable aspects of a wedding is the coming together of the family and friends of the happy couple. The occasion also gives you an opportunity to catch up with people you may not have seen for a while. And Harry may have taken advantage of his grandmother’s presence at the ceremony, as he was snapped enjoying a warm conversation with the Queen outside the church.

For the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, this was just the latest in a long line of weddings in their family. However, the monarch appeared to be beaming with pride as she and Philip left the church after seeing another grandchild happily married.

Eugenie and Brooksbank spent some time greeting the crowd of people outside the church, defying the unfortunate weather conditions in the process. After that, the pair entered their horse-drawn Scottish State Coach, ready to leave for their reception. And as the newlyweds set off, a photographer grabbed one more snap of Eugenie waving goodbye to the crowd with a smile.

Following the considerable build-up to the moment, all eyes were on the bride and groom as the time came to exchange rings. However, Brooksbank seemed to have some trouble placing the ring on his bride’s finger. Then, after a few awkward moments, he overcame the tricky problem – likely much to the relief of both himself and Eugenie.

As is the case with practically every bride at a wedding, Eugenie’s dress was a big talking point. And many people highlighted the low neckline at the back, which displayed the scar from her scoliosis operation as a child. The gown had some other features, though; personal symbols such as the Scottish thistle, the York rose and the Irish shamrock had also been stitched into the outfit.

Then, after the ceremony had come to a close, the two families sat down for a group photograph commemorating the event. However, Philip’s placement caused some raised eyebrows, as he was sat next to his son’s ex-wife. For years, in fact, it’s been suggested that the Duke of Edinburgh doesn’t like Ferguson, with his posture in the photo fueling that speculation. One big, happy family? Possibly not.
