The year is 1965, the date November 14. A violent rainstorm sweeps across the Kennedy Space Center in Florida just as Apollo 12 is due to launch, bound for the Moon. As the mission crew subsequently hurtle towards the sky, a flash of lightning travels right through the rocket, swiftly followed by a second strike. Our story is about one of the men aboard the spacecraft: Alan Bean – an astronaut who might well have wondered if his craft would ever reach its destination.
